Tomato Rasam

(Serves 4-5 people)

Ingredients


  • Medium Size Tomatoes-5
  • Garlic-4
  • Cumin Seeds-1/2 tsp
  • Whole Red Chilies-3-4
  • Black Pepper Powder-1/4 tsp
  • Curry Leaves-6-7
  • Chopped Cilantro-1/4 cup
  • Turmeric-1/4 tsp
  • Water-5 1/2 cups
  • Salt-3 tsp
  • Oil-1 tbsp
  • Mustard Seeds-1/4 tsp
Method
  1. Take a microwavable container and microwave the tomatoes for 6-7 mins.
  2. Let them cool down for 1/2 an hour.
  3. Then peel the tomatoes.
  4. Grind the tomatoes.
  5. Now grind garlic, cumin seeds, whole red chilies, black pepper powder, curry leaves, and chopped cilantro.
  6. Take a pan, put the oil in and heat it.
  7. Now add mustard seeds, let it them crack.
  8. Now add (garlic, cumin seeds, whole red chilies, black pepper powder, curry leaves, and chopped cilantro) paste.
  9. Stir it in low flame for a while then add salt and turmeric.
  10. After few mins add tomatoes.
  11. Now add water (around 5 1/2 cups).
  12. Boil it and after few mins off the flame and cover it.
Tips:
  • If you want, you can add tamarind too.
  •  It really helps when you have a sore throat or cold.
  • You can always increase or decrease the amount of whole red chilies and black pepper powder.
