Sambhar

(Serves 4-5 people)

Ingredients

  • Toor Dal-1 Cup
  • Water-4 Cup
  • Turmeric-1 tsp
  • Salt-3 tsp
  • Asafoetida (Hing)-a pinch
  • Onion-1 1/2 Cups (Diced)
  • Tomato-2 Cups (Diced)
  • Curry leaves-8
  • Cilantro-1/2 cup
  • Tamarind pulp-1 tsp
  • Sambhar Powder-4 tsp
  • Mustard Seeds-1 1/2 tsp
  • Whole Red Chili-3
  • Oil-1 tbsp
Method
  1. Cook toor dal with water, turmeric, asafoetida and salt in the pressure cooker.
  2. At least wait for 5 long whistles. 
  3. Once dal is cooked, add onion, tomatoes, curry leaves, tamarind pulp and sambhar powder.
  4. Boil till everything becomes tender.
  5. Take a pan.
  6. Put oil inl.
  7. Heat it.
  8. Put mustard seeds and whole red chili.
  9. Pour it into the Sambhar.
Tips:  
  • Use MTR sambhar powder. 
  • If it's a dry tamarind, then soak it for an hour. 
  • If you want it early, then soak it in the warm water. 
  • You can add vegetables. 
  • Bottel Gourd, Okra, Eggplant, Raddish, Cluster Beans, Beans, Carrot and Drumsticks also taste good in Sambhar.
